Octagonal Tower Keep
The Octagonal Tower Keep is
user-created model, designed to be
a modular, multistory structure
that can serve as a stand alone
tower or as the keep for the
E-Z
Dungeons Borderland Keep
by Fat
Dragon Games.

Instructions:
N.B. This model is somewhat advanced, and it is assumed that the you will have already
had some experience constructing paper model buildings, such as those in the
Dragonshire: Base Set
or the
Borderland Keep
. If this is not the case, we recommend that
you purchase and build one or more of those models before beginning this one. That said,
helpful advise regarding materials and techniques is always available through the
Fat
Dragon Games Forum

The following instructions are meant to supplement the instructions for the
Borderland Keep
.
For the wall and floor images we have used the layers function in Adobe Acrobat, so that doors,
windows and arrow slits may be omitted or added as needed. The images for the two-story lower
wall section and the three-story upper wall section, may be left as multistory sections, but they
are designed to be cut into individual levels, which can be stacked to any height desired. As the
images show, each octagonal wall section is designed to fit over the raised floor of the level
below it.
Begin with the two-level lower wall section. The first step is to score, cut and edge the four wall
pieces for each level, and glue them together end to end, so that they lay flat. It is important to
make sure that, while you are gluing the wall pieces together end to end, the divider image that
runs along the middle of all of the pieces, which will serve as your cut line for separating the
levels, forms a straight line. We have left the top and bottom tabs on the wall images to allow for
alternate constructions, but for the modular, stacked construction, you will have to cut of the top
and bottom tabs. You may wish to leave the top tabs on the topmost level, if you plan to attach
the battlements to the topmost level. We recommend, however, that you construct the battlements
separately, so that the topmost level can also be changed.
Once the walls are glued end to end, and have dried, cut along the line at the center of the "stone"
layer that divides the levels. After you have cut the two story wall section into two levels, glue
the lower half (the ground floor wall section) into the octagonal tube shape and let it dry.
Score, cut, and edge the raised floor piece, and test fit it by inserting it into the octagonal wall
tube. Bear in mind when test fitting, that all eight of the octagonal sides are not the same; four are
3" and four are 2 13/16". Given the span of the floor piece, we strongly suggest reinforcing it
before you glue it in place, with an extra layer of card stock, card board or foam core.
Once you are sure the floor piece will slide tightly inside, turn the wall tube upside down and
slide the floor piece face down inside, so that it rests on the table. Bend the side tabs for the floor

inward and down, and glue the upper parts where they will make contact with the walls. Then,
holding the floor down against the table, gently pull the wall upward till the floor piece protrudes
down 1/4" out of the wall. There are lines on the sides of the floor at the correct depth. Once the
raised floor protrudes the correct amount, turn the wall tube on its side and smooth each of the
tabs down against the inside of the tube.
Now, cut and score the blank floor piece, remembering to cut out the smaller octagon at the
center. Glue the tabs and recess the blank floor a little more than 1/4" up into the bottom of the
level. Use the hole to reach inside and smooth down the glue tabs and adjust the depth. This
blank floor piece is essential for maintaining the correct octagonal shape, thereby ensuring that
the levels fit easily onto one another. If the blank floors are not recessed deeply enough, the
upper level will not fit all the way down onto the level below it.
Having finished the lower half of the wall section, glue the upper half into the octagonal shape
and, while the glue is still damp, test fit it over the raised floor of the level below. It should fit
snuggly but not too tightly. Too tight a fit will inhibit the interchangeability of the various levels.
Once you are sure that the two levels fit well together, make a small mark of some sort across the
joint, so that you can later line up the marks when you assemble the tower. Now, take the tube off
and let it dry completely. Once it's dry you can install the raised floor and the blank, recessed
floor, as before.
