NOTES:
The reality is that when you ask a young person in China if he or she has any siblings,
more likely than not you’ll hear “No. I don’t. I’m the only child”.
This is how you say
“only
child” - dú shēng zǐ nǚ (独生子女/獨生子女)”. It literally means
“single
birth son daughter”.
Even though most young people are supposed to be
“dú
shēng zǐ nǚ (独生子女/獨生子
女)”, you’ll still meet people who have siblings from time to time. For the sake of
having you practice hearing a variety of answers, out of many people we interviewed,
we particularly chose those who said they had siblings to incorporate in this video.
